The accused was apprehended by the state police command for the reported incident at Oke-Odu Area, Akure, on January 17, 2024.

The charges against James include murder and rape, with the police prosecutor, Anwana Josephine, presenting the case before the court. It is reported that after the alleged rape, James fatally assaulted the victim by striking her head with a stone and disposing of her lifeless body in a waste pit.

The charges are in violation of Section 357 and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. The Chief Magistrate, F.A. Aduroja, has ruled for the defendant’s remand in the correctional center in Ondo town. The trial is set to resume on March 27, 2024.
