Wike Clarifies Reasons For Demolition Of Ukachukwu’s Property In Abuja
In a recent revelation, Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, addressed the contentious issue surrounding the demolition of properties belonging to Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu in Abuja’s Asokoro District. The move came amidst allegations of ethnic bias and land seizure leveled against Wike, former FCT Minister Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and certain Lebanese developers……READ ALSO Wike Reveals When Tinubu Will Commission Vice President’s Residence
Dismissing the accusations of ethnic discrimination, Wike shed light on the questionable circumstances surrounding the allocation of the disputed land. He pointed out that the land was allocated during a period of ministerial transition, lacking the necessary approvals. Such procedural irregularities cast doubt on the legitimacy of the allocation.
Moreover, Wike revealed that stakeholders had unanimously agreed to halt any development on the contested land pending a final decision. However, Ukachukwu’s premature sale of land parcels preempted this consensus, leading to swift action by the authorities.
The demolition, part of a broader crackdown on illegal structures across Abuja, underscores the administration’s commitment to enforcing lawful development. The Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) of the FCTA also conducted similar operations at the Area 3 Taxi Rank, targeting unauthorized establishments.
Peter Olumuji, secretary of the Command and Control Centre, Department of Security Service (FCTA), emphasized the importance of maintaining legal and orderly development within the city.
Wike’s revelations expose the intricate challenges in land administration, highlighting corruption within the ministry’s land department. By confronting these irregularities, Wike’s administration reaffirms its dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring equitable treatment for all citizens.
As stakeholders await further developments, the resolution of this dispute holds significant implications for property rights enforcement and governance in Nigeria’s capital.
