Okuama-Ewu: Over 12 Residents Perish In Forest Due To Hunger, Sickness, And Snake Bites

In response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has inaugurated an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) management committee tasked with coordinating the rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced villagers. Led by Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, the committee comprises prominent figures including former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, and other key stakeholders from the region.

Abraham Ogbodo, the newly appointed chairman of the IDP management committee, revealed the gravity of the situation, stating that more than 12 residents who were forced into hiding have tragically lost their lives due to hunger, sickness, and snake bites.

Governor Oborevwori expressed deep concern over the incident and its devastating impact on the community during the committee’s inauguration in Asaba. He emphasized that while condemning the unfortunate killing of soldiers, the welfare of innocent civilians remains the top priority.

Efforts are underway to ensure the affected individuals are not only returned to their homes but also supported in their recovery process. The establishment of the committee marks a critical step towards healing and rebuilding the lives of the people in Okuama-Ewu, according to the governor.

It’s worth noting that human rights activist Femi Falana, SAN, has urged the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to reassign the investigation to the police, seeking a transparent probe into the military’s actions in the community.
