The protesters urged the anti-graft agency to delve into various petitions against Matawalle, including allegations of contract diversion amounting to ₦70 billion during his tenure as governor.

Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC Director of Public Affairs, received the protest letter on behalf of the chairman and assured the demonstrators of the commission’s commitment to thoroughly pursue every corruption case to its conclusion.

Matawalle, who currently serves as the Minister of State for Defence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, faces renewed scrutiny as protesters demand accountability for his alleged mismanagement of funds while in office.

In a related development, reports suggest that President Tinubu is contemplating a cabinet reshuffle to address underperformance among ministers. This decision follows his earlier warning to dismiss non-performing ministers during a cabinet retreat in November 2023.

As part of the anticipated reshuffle, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu is likely to be reassigned to a different ministry due to his perceived lackluster performance. Adelabu’s tenure has been marked by controversies, including his controversial remarks justifying electricity tariff increases, which drew public ire and prompted Tinubu to demand an apology.

Tinubu’s directive for Adelabu to publicly apologize underscores his commitment to accountability and efficient governance.
