Exposed: How ₦45,000 Bought Freedom? Police Investigate Fake Character Certificate ScandalThe Nigeria Police Force has initiated an investigation into a troubling revelation of fraudulent activity involving the issuance of a Police Character Certificate (PCC) to an inmate at Kirikiri Medium Correctional Facility in Lagos State. The case was brought to light by a damning report published by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), titled “With ₦45,000, I Got Valid Police Character Certificate for Kirikiri Prison Inmate.”

According to the FIJ report, investigative journalist Daniel Ojukwu uncovered a scheme facilitated by DSP Stella Agidin of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID). Using the passport data page of an inmate and a falsified passport photograph, the journalist allegedly obtained a PCC for the inmate, who had already spent four years in detention without release. Shockingly, the certificate was acquired without undergoing proper security verification procedures.

The report further disclosed that the journalist, posing as the inmate, intended to travel to Ghana using the illicitly acquired certificate. The transaction reportedly involved a payment of ₦45,000 to the police personnel involved.

In response to these grave allegations, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that an immediate investigation has been launched into the matter. He assured the public that the police are taking the issue seriously and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.

“This has been brought to our notice. We have instituted an investigation into this case immediately,” stated Adejobi. “The police will address this matter perfectly and update Nigerians.”

The revelation has sparked widespread concern over the integrity of police procedures and the potential ramifications for security and justice in Nigeria. Authorities are under pressure to swiftly resolve the matter and ensure accountability for those involved in this egregious breach of trust.

As the investigation unfolds, Nigerians await further developments and clarity on measures taken to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future.
