Support Grows For Tinubu’s Tax Reforms As South-South Senators Lead The Charge

In a statement released in Abuja by Forum Chairman, Senator Seriake Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West), the lawmakers affirmed their endorsement following a thorough review of the proposals. They emphasized that the tax reforms would not only serve the national interest but also align with the South-South region’s needs, aiming to enhance national revenue and promote economic stability.
The Senators, who represent Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers States, also expressed their confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s leadership, praising his efforts in advancing the Senate’s constitutional duties. They urged all stakeholders to avoid regional, ethnic, or tribal bias in the ongoing national discourse, advocating for constructive consultations throughout the legislative process.
The statement was signed by 15 other Senators, including:

- Senator Ipalibo Banigo (PDP, Rivers West)
- Senator Benson Agadaga (PDP, Bayelsa East)
- Senator Konbowei Benson (PDP, Bayelsa Central)
- Senator Eteng Jonah Williams (APC, Cross River Central)
- Senator Ekong Sampson (PDP, Akwa Ibom South)
- Senator Ede Dafinone (APC, Delta Central)
The Senators reaffirmed their dedication to a legislative agenda that promotes national peace, prosperity, and progress while addressing the specific needs of the South-South region.
The Tax Reform Bills presented by President Tinubu to the National Assembly include the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (SB.583), the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (SB.584), the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024 (SB.585), and the Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024 (SB.586). These bills have already passed their second reading in the Senate.
