WAEC 2026 Results Out: Only 32.72% Score Five Credits

According to Ireporter Online, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 First Series of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates. The examination, conducted nationwide between January 28 and February 14, 2026, saw 10,523 registered candidates, marking an 11.49 per cent increase from 9,438 candidates in 2025.

Of the total registered candidates, 10,480 sat for the examination across 166 centres nationwide. The council disclosed that the marking of scripts and coordination of examiners were conducted at centres in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna between February 26 and March 13, involving 608 examiners.

WAEC reported that 43 candidates with special needs participated, including 11 visually impaired candidates, four with hearing impairments, and four albinos, all of whom received adequate support to ensure a smooth examination process. Gender distribution indicated that 5,106 candidates (48.72 per cent) were male, while 5,374 (51.28 per cent) were female.

The council confirmed that results for 8,418 candidates (80.32 per cent) have been fully processed and released, while 2,062 candidates (19.68 per cent) still have some results pending due to candidate-related errors. WAEC assured that efforts are ongoing to complete the processing without delay.

On overall performance, 4,598 candidates (43.87 per cent) obtained credit passes and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics. Notably, 3,429 candidates (32.72 per cent) achieved credits in at least five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics, with 1,847 males (53.86 per cent) and 1,582 females (46.14 per cent) in this category. The council highlighted that this represents a marginal improvement over previous years, compared with 30.95 per cent in 2024 and 26.96 per cent in 2025.

WAEC also revealed that the results of 75 candidates (0.72 per cent) have been withheld due to alleged examination malpractice, with investigations ongoing. Candidates have been advised to check their results online via the WAEC results portal and access digital certificates, while hard copies are available through the certificate portal.

The council commended candidates for their efforts and expressed appreciation to government agencies, security operatives, and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring a successful examination process.
