I Wish People Knew Less About Me” – Ayra Starr Opens Up On Fame Pressure
According to Ireporter Online, Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has revealed that she would have been unemployed if her music career had not taken off, noting that her success in the industry completely changed the direction of her life.
The Mavin Records artiste made the disclosure during a recent interview with EE72, where she reflected on her journey into stardom, her signing to Mavin Records, and the pressures that come with fame. She explained that before her breakthrough, she never envisioned herself as a content creator or in any structured profession, joking that she would likely have been “just at home vibing and eating her mother’s food” if music had not worked out for her.
Ayra Starr also recounted her excitement upon discovering that Don Jazzy and the Mavin team had been aware of her music before officially signing her, describing the moment as a major turning point in her career. While expressing gratitude for her rise in the music industry, the 24-year-old admitted that fame also comes with its downsides, noting that she sometimes feels she overshares during interviews because of her naturally open personality.
Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr joined Mavin Records in 2020 after being discovered through social media by Don Jazzy. Since then, she has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading music exports, with successful projects such as 19 & Dangerous and The Year I Turned 21, alongside multiple awards, international recognition, and chart-topping releases.
