Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has explained that his criticism of President Bola Tinubu is rooted in democratic principles rather than personal animosity.

Momodu made the clarification during an appearance on Arise TV, where he said he would readily support Tinubu if the President remained committed to the democratic ideals they fought for during the military era.

According to Ireporter Online, Momodu argued that there would be no reason for him to oppose Tinubu if the President governed in line with the principles that motivated their struggle against military dictatorship.

He said he would even go to great lengths to support Tinubu if the President upheld those values, stressing that his major concern was any perceived shift from democratic governance to what he described as civilian dictatorship.

Momodu stated that he would be hypocritical to remain silent if democratic principles were being undermined after the country had moved away from military rule.

Despite his criticism, the ADC chieftain said he has tremendous respect for Tinubu and would not engage in personal attacks or insults against the President.

He acknowledged Tinubu’s influence on his political development, saying the President was among those who encouraged him to challenge established authorities and fight for what he believed was right.

Momodu also praised Tinubu’s political achievements in Lagos, noting that the record he built in the state helped establish his reputation and eventually paved the way for his emergence as a national political figure.
