2023: Miracle Politics And Peter Obi’s Presidency Matters Arising By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
After Peter Obi’s interview on Channels TV yesterday on the show ‘Politics Today,’ with Seun, the internet will come alive again today.
One major point mentioned by Obi was the act of Miracle in his political journey thus far, in response to Seun’s query in which he stated that Atiku said only a miracle could make Peter Obi win the presidency.
What really constitutes a miracle? An extraordinary and welcome event that cannot be explained by natural or scientific rules and is thus attributed to supernatural intervention:
Is Miracle real or better explained? In many circumstances, so-called miracles may be explained rationally and scientifically and hence follow natural principles.
When I was watching the interview, a particular incident came to mind, and I remembered the “Miracle Baby” saga in the 1990s. If you watched Newsline on NTA with the endearing Abike Dabiri, you would be familiar with the girl who was given the nickname “Miracle Baby” after three women claimed they were her biological mothers.
Let me explain more for the purpose of the indomie generation. It all began when Alhaja Wuraola Abayomi, a woman in her mid-60s, appeared on Newsline one Sunday night in 1995 with her “baby” to declare she gave birth in her advanced age.
Soon after, a woman named Folashade Adeyemi who saw her during the show cried foul and claimed the child was hers, claiming that the old woman was never pregnant at the time she claimed she was, and that she had lost her own twin babies at the same clinic and was never permitted to see the children’s dead corpses. According to this assertion, she is the child’s second MOTHER.
Kikelomo Obikoya, a different lady who also claimed to be the mother of the child, then came forward, saying the same thing. She gave birth at the same clinic as the second woman, and the same midwife told her her baby had died.
To cut a long story short, it was determined that the third woman was the child’s mother after lengthy court proceedings and medical reports. The child is now a graduate and known as Mary Obikoya.
Continue reading to find out why I kept thinking about this incredible story during the interview. You see, Peter Obi began by claiming that his political path has always been a miracle since no one ever thought he could achieve what he has thus far.
“In 2003, I contested for the Anambra Governorship election under a party that was just one year old, people said it will take a MIRACLE for me to win the election that year, I Won.
Six months later, I was impeached. I challenged the impeachment in court, people said it will be impossible for me to come back to office, that no governor has ever come back to office after impeachment, they said it will take a miracle for me to win the case in court, I won the case.
I came back to office and in 2007, an election was conducted and Andy Uba declared the winner. I went to court again to seek for the interpretation of our laws, I told the court that the tenure of a Governor is four years and I should be allowed to finish my tenue, people said it will take miracle for me to win that case, I won.”- Peter Obi was quoted as saying
Everybody wishes for a miracle at some point in their lives. For instance, at some point, someone might say, “God, I need a miracle in my life for a huge financial breakthrough.” A lady in her fifties can pray to God for a miracle, saying, “I need a baby; don’t let the world mock me.”
Miracles work with the laws of attraction, so you can witness a previously unknown family become a worldwide sensation, such as the Famous Jackson Five, where Michael Jackson is an international ICON to this day. There are several cases of miracles occurring, and even politicians have benefited.
Now like the Miracle Baby when it occurs so many people would suddenly come around attributing the MIRACLE to their efforts, while others on the receiving end would start trading blames.
Consider the Osun elections: an incumbent governor lost reelection inside his own party, not because they forced him away to another party like they did Obaseki in the Edo elections, but he lost. They claimed it was due to Aregbesola’s anti-party politics; these were the same people who mocked the same Aregbesola when his camp lost the APC ticket, claiming the minister was a spent force.
Meanwhile, the Adeleke’s won Oyetola with more votes than Oyetola used to defeat the same Adeleke four years ago in an election that included Aregbesola and Oyetola in one camp. They fail to recognize the unpleasant fact that Adeleke has become more popular while Oyetola has lost popularity.
Anyway call it a MIRACLE or whatever Adeleke is now the Osun State Governor elect. Now at the end what is spectacular about a miracle? Everyone wants to lay claim to it.
To this day, Obama’s presidency remains a miracle; whatever you think about the way and manner in which he won, one truth remains that even if the achievement of a BLACK MAN becoming President of the United States were to be repeated today , it would still require a miracle.
I have questioned the APC and PDP leadership what would happen if these over 60 million registered voters that do not regularly come out to vote now come out to vote in the 2023 presidential election? Would they kill them? Or are we still debating the reality that more than 90% of those who do not vote wish they could have voted the ruling class out but only find one flimsy reason not to vote?
Do they believe, even in their wildest fantasies, that it is impossible? Why is it not possible as long as there is a breath of life? What if only those who turn out to vote on that particular day support Peter Obi’s agenda? Yes na, becos before na people wey dey sympathetic to political parties they always come out to come vote.
According to POLLS, the 2023 presidential elections will be determined by millions of Nigerians who are fed up with the system and want genuine change, and all they need to do is vote on that day, and a MIRACLE will occur.
Remember that all miracles can be logically and scientifically explained, and as a result, they all adhere to natural laws.
In sports, for example, in the start of a world cup tournament, a team may experience defeat in its first game and then go on to win the tournament. This feat was not accomplished by chance; it required determined efforts.
In just a few days, presidents have resigned over scandals; compare that to six months of political activity. Obi’s popularity will continue to rise as long as Nigerians struggle just to survive. Yesterday, Presidential guards stopped a terrorist attack in Abuja just less than 48 hours after terrorists threatened to kidnap the president. How much be dollar NOW? Na so we go DEY ?
As long as ASUU is on strike and students are at home, Peter Obi’s profile will rise; as long as farmers are unable to go to their farms due to the threat of killer herdsmen and their colleagues in the same Whatsapp group who call themselves bandits continue to operate, Peter Obi’s popularity will rise.
As a theologian I would define a miracle as thus ; An unusual and welcome occurrence that cannot be explained by natural or scientific laws and is consequently attributed to spiritual intervention.
Peter Obi is, without a doubt, a MIRACULOUS. baby.
