2027: APC Rejects Claims Of Persecuting El-Rufai, Malami
According to Ireporter Online, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central Forum, Saleh Zazzaga, has dismissed claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that ongoing investigations involving former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, are politically motivated.
Zazzaga emphasized that the cases are centered on accountability rather than targeting opposition figures. He stressed that no individual is above the law, irrespective of party affiliation.
“If somebody commits corruption, does it mean that because he is in the opposition, the government should not handle his case? Even within the APC, if anyone commits an offence, he must face the consequences,” he said.
Zazzaga questioned the narrative of political persecution, noting that other opposition figures have not been summoned by anti-graft agencies. “If the opposition is being witch-hunted, Obi and Atiku would have been invited too. This is not about opposition politics. It is about what certain individuals did while in office,” he stated.
He also downplayed suggestions that the ruling party feels threatened by the ADC or its coalition efforts. “We are not worried about the ADC. They are not on ground. Nobody can hide under the cover of opposition to commit crime,” Zazzaga said.
Criticizing the records of Malami and El-Rufai, he said, “Everybody knows how Malami handled some political cases and ignored certain court directives. We also know how El-Rufai ran Kaduna State and left behind huge debts. The current governor is struggling financially, and if not for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, development in Kaduna would have stalled.”
Zazzaga reiterated that the investigations are not acts of political vendetta. “This is not a political vendetta. Malami and El-Rufai must face the consequences of their actions. If they clear themselves, they are free to continue their political activities,” he said, adding that El-Rufai’s recent statements are merely attempts to distract from the ongoing probes.
