Amid Chicago State University Certificate Controversy, Tinubu Carries Out Powerful Sack And Replacements (FULL LIST)
On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu announced changes in leadership positions within three agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
The President appointed new heads to these agencies, while the heads of two separate agencies retained their positions. This information was conveyed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in Abuja.
The appointed chief executives, both new and returning, now lead agencies including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), and Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
A review of the appointments reveals that three top executives have been replaced with new individuals, while two of the executives have been retained for another five-year tenure.
President Tinubu has approved Aminu Maida as the new Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NCC, succeeding Umar Danbatta. Nkechi Egerton-Idehen has been appointed as the new Managing Director/CEO of NIGCOMSAT, replacing Tukur Funtua.
Additionally, Tola Odeyemi has been named the new Postmaster General/CEO, succeeding Sunday Adepoju at NIPOST.
However, Kashifu Abdullahi, the Director General of NITDA, and Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner of NDPC, will continue in their current positions.

The removal of some of the chief executives may come as a surprise to them, as they had a few years remaining in their tenures before their scheduled expiration.
For instance, the former EVC of the NCC, Mr. Danbatta, was removed three years after his reappointment and confirmation by the Senate in July 2020 for a second term of five years by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Similarly, the former NIPOST boss, Mr. Adepoju, was dismissed barely a year after assuming office. Likewise, the replacement of the NIGCOMSAT chief, Mr. Funtua, occurred less than a year after his appointment in December by Mr. Buhari.
As of the current time, no official reasons have been provided for these dismissals.
In the midst of endeavors to harness Nigeria’s technological and digital economic potential to bolster the nation’s economy and enhance financial inclusion, Mr. Ngelale stated that the president has also sanctioned the appointment of Idris Alubankudi as his new Special Adviser on Technology and Digital Economy.
All appointments, as outlined in the statement, are to take immediate effect.
