Atiku Abubakar Condemns Canadian Activist’s Threats Against Yoruba and Edo Communities

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a strong condemnation of the threats made by Canadian activist Amaka Sunnberger against Yoruba and Edo communities. The threats, reportedly announced via TikTok, involved plans to poison members of these Nigerian ethnic groups living in Canada.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Atiku labeled Sunnberger’s remarks as “unacceptable” and emphasized the severity of the situation. He noted that the threats were made during a virtual chat where discussions allegedly centered around ethnic cleansing.

Atiku praised the swift actions taken by the House of Representatives and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). Both organizations have filed a petition with the Canadian government, demanding the prosecution of Sunnberger.

He commended these bodies for their prompt response, which he believes is crucial in addressing and mitigating the impact of such harmful rhetoric. Atiku also expressed appreciation for their efforts in alerting Canadian law enforcement agencies to the situation, underscoring the need for immediate action against divisive and inflammatory statements.
