CBN Governor Debunks $2.4 Billion Forex Claims: Contrary to claims of the federal government owing $2.4 billion in foreign exchange, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, refutes these allegations.
In an Arise Television interview, Cardoso clarifies that the bank has settled verified forex requests amounting to $2.3 billion, out of the reported $7 billion outstanding foreign exchange liabilities.
Cardoso asserts that the current total outstanding FX obligations stand at $2.2 billion, expressing confidence that these outstanding forex liabilities will be addressed shortly.
Notably, he highlights that, of the $7 billion outstanding FX claims, approximately $2.4 billion were found to be fraudulent based on a forensic audit by Deloitte Management Consultant, commissioned by the CBN.
The CBN chief emphasizes the bank’s commitment to not paying for FX requests that are not validly constituted and informs that the bank has communicated with authorized dealers to address the identified disparities.
