During the court proceedings before Justice Abimbola Awogboro at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the four-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for mutilation of Naira notes.
In light of Bobrisky’s admission, Justice Awogboro deferred judgment to Tuesday, April 9, 2024, and ordered the defendant to be remanded in EFCC custody pending sentence.
After the adjournment, Olumofin addressed the media, emphasizing that Bobrisky had pleaded guilty, indicating cooperation with the legal process. He highlighted that as a first-time offender, Bobrisky may not face the maximum punishment as prescribed by relevant laws.
Olumofin explained that under the Criminal Justice Act, the court has discretion in sentencing, considering factors such as remorse and cooperation. He further noted that the punishment for the offense could entail either six months’ imprisonment or a fine of N50,000.
Acknowledging that the EFCC had accepted the defendant’s commitment to cease the abuse of Naira notes, Olumofin expressed confidence in the court’s impartiality in determining the appropriate sentence.
The lawyer’s statement underscores the legal proceedings surrounding Bobrisky’s case and highlights the potential outcome in light of his guilty plea.
