[BREAKING] Fubara: PDP NWC Takes Strong Action (DETAILS)

As tensions escalate over the potential impeachment of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is urging all parties involved in the dispute to put down their weapons and seek a peaceful and amicable resolution to the crisis.

PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, conveyed this message in a statement issued on Tuesday, roughly 24 hours after the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor.

Governor Fubara is facing allegations of gross misconduct deemed unfitting of his position.

The Assembly Complex was thrown into chaos after a section was engulfed in flames on Sunday night. The ensuing drama on Monday morning included the removal of key officials in the Assembly, accompanied by the sound of gunshots filling the air.

On Monday, Fubara visited the Complex to assess the extent of the damage and claimed he was fired upon by the police. The police, in turn, stated that this allegation is under investigation.

In its statement, the PDP NWC urged all party members and supporters to be calm and assured them that it has “commenced processes, using the Party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms to ensure that all matters and areas of disagreement are addressed”.

“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people,” the statement read.
