State Secretariat following a meeting with labor union representatives.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the state government will also settle the outstanding arrears for the past three months, out of the five-month backlog previously promised, as outlined in the 2024 budget. This adjustment, including the new minimum wage, will take effect from November 2024.
Governor Alia noted that the decision to set the wage at ₦75,000 was made in consideration of labor’s demands, including concerns over transportation allowances, tax reliefs, and work-off days. He further mentioned that although the national minimum wage was set at ₦70,000 by President Bola Tinubu, his administration decided to exceed this amount to better address the needs of workers in the state.
The Governor reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of the people of Benue, ensuring that workers are properly supported, and alleviating the hardships they face.
