shared this information in a recent statement released by Abimbola Emdin-Umehin, the Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPA).
Dr. Olumide emphasized that the state government is adopting a zero-tolerance approach towards illegality in construction. His remarks came as enforcement activities resumed in the Ikeja area, led by officials from the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Dr. Olumide cited a specific case of a building under construction on Isaac John Street by Oba Dosunmu Street, GRA Ikeja. The developer had been granted permission for a 6-floor mixed-use construction by the authority but allegedly added two floors illegally to the ongoing project.
Dr. Olumide stated, “The developer must adhere to all specified conditions for the property to be regularized, or the illegally added two floors must be removed before unsealing the building.”
He highlighted the commitment of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to collaborate with relevant agencies to identify and penalize offenders. Dr. Olumide asserted that the government would not tolerate any violations of laws and would take necessary actions against those involved in illegal development activities.
As the year 2024 begins, the Lagos State Government is resolute in its determination to curb unlawful development activities, emphasizing the crucial need for strict adherence to physical planning permit laws. The focus is on maintaining order and creating a safe, organized environment for all residents of Lagos.
