The Senate has begun the screening of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for the position of Minister of Defence. According to Ireporter Online, the exercise commenced on Wednesday at the National Assembly following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.

General Musa’s nomination was submitted just a day after the former Defence Minister, Abubakar Badaru, stepped down from office. President Tinubu, in a formal letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urged lawmakers to give due consideration to the appointment of the retired military chief.

The letter was read during Wednesday’s plenary, after which the Senate agreed to suspend its rules to allow General Musa into the chamber for the screening procedure.

A live broadcast of the screening was made available for public viewing.
