Breaking: Soldiers Rampage In Bayelsa, Open fire And Leaving 11 Dead
Reports have emerged stating that 11 residents of the Igbomotoru community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State were killed following an invasion by troops from the Nigerian Army. According to sources, soldiers in five gunboats stormed the Bayelsa community, firing at residents and setting ablaze three houses suspected to be the hideout of a militant leader allegedly involved in the killing of the military personnel on a rescue mission in Delta State.
A source speaking to Daily Trust revealed that the community managed to recover eleven bodies from the attack while still searching for others.
“The military invasion has had severe repercussions on the people. Lives have been lost, properties destroyed. Even after the attack, life in that community can never be the same,” the source lamented.
The source further added, “This weekend was scheduled for the burial of one of my late uncles. We had already made arrangements for food, drinks, music, speedboat, and canopies. But now, because of this, the burial cannot proceed. Some of the vendors we paid are even demanding extra money if we reschedule. It’s a significant loss on its own. We appeal to the Federal and State Governments to urgently intervene. We are not involved in whatever transpired in Delta State. The international community should come to our aid.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no comment from the spokesman for Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) headquarters, Major Adenegan Ojo, regarding the latest developments.
