Cultist Carnage: Obelle Community Leader Slain In Ruthless Meeting Ambush In Rivers

Tragedy struck in Obelle community of Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Saturday, when suspected members of the notorious Iceland cult group fatally shot Ferdinand Dabiri, the Vice Chairman of the Obelle Council of Chiefs, during a routine community meeting.

According to iReporter Online, the gruesome attack unfolded in the quiet village of Omuwoka just as Dabiri and fellow traditional leaders were concluding deliberations at their usual venue. Eyewitnesses say the assailant, later identified as a cultist known as “Cairo,” arrived on a motorcycle, bypassed the other chiefs, and headed directly toward Dabiri before firing a shot into his chest at close range.

According to iReporter Online, the shooter was briefly restrained by a bystander but managed to break free, firing two more rounds into Dabiri before fleeing the scene. The victim’s son, Joseph Dabiri, expressed the family’s deep grief and disbelief over the killing. “I was told someone walked into their meeting and shot my father. Despite attempts to subdue him, he broke loose and finished the job,” he recounted in Port Harcourt.

Joseph also confirmed the matter had been reported to the Rumuji Police Division. Meanwhile, his brother added that the family was still reeling from the trauma.

Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that a full investigation had commenced. “From the initial reports, a man identified as ‘Cairo’ entered the Obelle community while a meeting was in progress and shot one of the participants. We are committed to ensuring the suspect is apprehended and brought to justice,” she said.

According to iReporter Online, the body of the slain community leader has been deposited at the morgue, while security agents continue their hunt for the killer believed to have links to organized cult violence plaguing the region.
