Denmark Lists 5 Social Benefits Foreigners With Establishment Cards Cannot Claim
Denmark has clarified that foreign nationals holding an Establishment Card are not automatically entitled to certain social welfare benefits available to other categories of residents.
According to Ireporter Online, Danish authorities have outlined five specific benefits that are excluded for people granted an Establishment Card, as well as eligible family members accompanying the primary cardholder.
The benefits listed as unavailable to this immigration category are cash benefits, rehabilitation benefits, self-sufficiency and return benefits, graduate allowances, and transition benefits.
The restrictions apply to individuals who have been granted an Establishment Card or who are accompanying a family member who holds one.
An Establishment Card provides eligible foreign nationals with a legal basis to remain in Denmark after completing their studies or leaving employment to pursue entrepreneurial or business opportunities. However, the residence status does not automatically provide access to the specified welfare benefits.
The clarification is intended to help Establishment Card holders understand the limits of their residence status and plan their finances accordingly without relying on social welfare programmes that are not available to them.
Meanwhile, Danish authorities have also outlined additional requirements for foreigners seeking permanent residence under a faster route. According to the information provided, applicants who satisfy all four specified conditions may qualify for permanent residence after four years rather than the standard eight-year period.
Foreign nationals considering an Establishment Card or permanent residence in Denmark are advised to carefully review the applicable immigration and welfare rules to determine the benefits and residence options available under their individual circumstances.
