In a statement released on Sunday in Akwa, the capital of Anambra State, Ejimakor asserted that Kanu is being deprived of a fair trial due to the DSS’s surveillance of his discussions with his lawyers.

Furthermore, Ejimakor claimed that the DSS is clandestinely capturing photographs of Kanu alongside his legal representatives, raising serious concerns about the confidentiality of their conversations.

“We have serious reservations about the confidentiality of our discussions with him. On one occasion, while consulting with him alongside a colleague, security operatives surreptitiously took photographs of us,” Ejimakor stated.

He continued, highlighting the absurdity of the situation: “We were taken aback by this intrusive act. Despite there being no visible surveillance equipment in his room, we speak in hushed tones as someone always needs to pull him out to convey a message.”

Ejimakor emphasized the impossibility of ensuring a fair trial under such circumstances, asserting that the lack of privacy undermines the fundamental principle of fair hearing.

“The current conditions foster a significant lack of tolerance towards his access to legal counsel. A fair trial is unattainable in this environment,” he concluded.
