Edo Crisis: Obaseki Promises To Recover Stolen Mandate From APC

Speaking to party leaders, local government chairmen, chieftains, and other stakeholders, Governor Obaseki emphasized the need for unity as the party continues its legal battle to recover its mandate.

“We must stand united and remain focused as we seek justice and prepare for the future,” Obaseki said. “We will reclaim our stolen mandate. It was taken from us in broad daylight, and we have the evidence to prove it. By the grace of God, we will recover it. They may try to get away with it, but the laws are on our side, and there is a proper process to follow. We are inaugurating a new government in Edo State, but this government is not involved.”

Obaseki criticized what he called the “illegality” surrounding the APC’s actions, asserting that the process of governance must be conducted in accordance with the law. He urged patience as the judicial process unfolds.

“We know how our mandate was stolen, and we have evidence to back it up. But let’s see how they navigate this. Our people turned out to vote for us, and we are challenging the results. We will prevail in the tribunal. We must remain vigilant and ensure their lies do not dominate. The hearing will begin in December, and we urge the people to stay engaged.”

Obaseki also expressed concerns about the APC’s financial activities, warning that they would attempt to manipulate the public perception with funds borrowed for the inauguration, a cost he estimated at between N2bn and N5bn.

“I won’t be leaving the party; I will remain involved to provide guidance,” he added. “This fight is not just for our candidate but for the people of Nigeria and the future of our democracy. If we allow the APC to succeed in stealing our mandate, it will be a blow to democracy in Nigeria.”
