In delivering the judgment, Justice Emmanuel Ahamioje, along with Justices Mary Asemota and Aifuwa Imoukhuede, found the appeals lacking in merit. They urged the state House of Assembly to review and harmonize certain provisions of the EDSIEC Act to align with federal law.

Justice Ahamioje emphasized the need for consistency in electoral procedures, particularly regarding local government elections. He called for streamlining of applicable sections of the EDSIEC Act to avoid discrepancies arising from two different laws governing the same electoral process.

Reacting to the tribunal’s decision, Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, expressed agreement with the verdict. He endorsed the recommendation for a review of the EDSIEC law, stating that it would establish a clear framework for future appeal processes.

The call for an electoral law review aims to ensure transparency and efficiency in the electoral process, setting a precedent for fair and effective appeal mechanisms in future elections in Edo State.
