Edo Under Siege: Gunmen Kidnap Traditional Ruler, Slay Okada Rider In Shocking Attack

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers shot and killed a commercial motorcyclist before kidnapping the traditional ruler and five others. However, one of the captives reportedly managed to escape.

Sources suggest that the kidnappers specifically targeted the monarch, raising concerns about the motive behind the abduction.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident. He stated that the police received reports of the kidnapping involving the monarch and a 21-year-old man. Yamu explained that the traditional ruler was on a motorcycle heading to his community when the attackers ambushed them, killing the Okada rider before taking the ruler away.

In response, Edo State’s Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, including the Police Mobile Force, to the area. The Area Commander is leading the operation as directed by the Commissioner of Police.

Security operatives have intensified their efforts to locate the kidnappers and ensure the safe release of the traditional ruler.
