Election Day Revelation: See What Obaseki Said After Casting His Vote
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has made alarming claims, describing Nigeria as “technically bankrupt.” He criticized the Federal Government for being stuck in outdated systems and called for an urgent restructuring to address the nation’s deepening financial woes.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Obaseki pointed out that Nigeria is failing to generate or earn enough to meet its rising expenses, warning that the current economic model is unsustainable.
“Nigeria is technically bankrupt. And I mean it,” Obaseki declared. “When a country like the United States faces such a situation, they restructure. However, Nigeria continues to behave as if it still has abundant resources.”
The governor highlighted the central government’s inefficiency in managing resources, stating, “The Federal Government doesn’t have the capacity to manage the economy at the current scale. We produce 1.3 million barrels of oil, but because of central control, only a fraction of our potential is realized.”
Obaseki also emphasized that the structural framework governing the country’s economy is outdated, further stressing that until individual states are empowered to leverage their economic assets, progress will remain stunted.
“The Federal Government is stuck in the past, using tools that are no longer effective. It’s not about lack of intelligence; it’s about courage to make the tough decisions. Nigeria needs a new economic structure to thrive,” Obaseki asserted.
His remarks have sparked renewed discussions on the country’s financial health and the need for significant reforms.
