Ex-NHRC Boss And EFCC Clash Over Bobrisky’s Arrest

Odinkalu condemned the arrest and arraignment of Bobrisky, linking it to recent hikes in energy tariffs by the government. He suggested that the EFCC’s focus on Bobrisky was a diversion from more pressing issues affecting Nigerians.

In response, the EFCC issued a statement threatening legal action against Odinkalu for his “reckless commentaries.” The Commission defended Bobrisky’s arrest, citing clear cases of abuse of currency laws to which Bobrisky had pleaded guilty.

The EFCC cautioned Odinkalu to exercise his right to free speech responsibly and warned against further “uncouth commentaries” undermining its lawful mandate.

Odinkalu fired back, accusing the EFCC of being “shameless” and “idle.” He criticized the EFCC’s priorities and labeled the institution as “jobless” for its perceived abuse of power.

The clash between Odinkalu and the EFCC underscores broader debates over freedom of speech, law enforcement priorities, and accountability in Nigeria.
