Exposed: Amotekun Agents Struggle In Silence, Demand Justice

Sources within the corps have revealed that despite years of service, there has been no formal issuance of employment letters. Operatives, often deployed for extended periods in forest areas, lament the lack of allowances or recognition for their demanding roles.

Accusing the agency’s leadership of opacity in its operations, disgruntled operatives claim that the actual number of personnel remains undisclosed, potentially facilitating financial mismanagement.

Speaking anonymously, an operative from the Central Senatorial District expressed widespread dissatisfaction: “None of us are content. Our initial enthusiasm has dwindled. We receive minimal salaries without any allowances. Even during recent economic hardships, we received no support. How are we expected to remain motivated?”

The state’s budget records indicate significant allocations to the corps, with N674 million expended in the first quarter of 2024, following N1.5 billion in 2023 and N1.45 billion in 2022.

In response, the corps leadership defended its recruitment practices, noting the paramilitary nature of Amotekun and efforts to align salary structures with other southwestern states: “Recruitment procedures differ from civil service norms. We are working towards a unified salary scheme across Ondo and neighboring states.”
