Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Tanko Beji, has defected from the opposition party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to IREPORTERONLINE, Beji announced his decision to join the APC on Friday, although the specific reasons behind his defection were not immediately disclosed.

Beji is a notable figure in Niger State politics and previously led the PDP chapter in the state. His latest move comes amid continued political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former PDP chairman had previously been involved in welcoming politicians who defected from the APC to the opposition party during his tenure as state chairman.

In December 2022, Beji received more than 200 APC members into the PDP in Niger State. Among those who joined the opposition party at the time was former House of Representatives member Ibrahim Ebbo.

Beji also remained active in the PDP after the 2023 general elections, particularly amid a series of defections by prominent opposition figures to the APC.

His latest decision to leave the PDP for the ruling party is expected to generate further reactions within political circles in Niger State as parties continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development comes at a time of fresh movement within the APC, with Senator representing Kwara Central, Salihu Mustapha, announcing his resignation from the ruling party on Thursday.
