From Zoo To Presidential Villa; Why Peter Obi’s Ambition Would Remain An Uphill Task By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
‘The language the people hear in the Zoo is violence. If they fail to give us Biafra, Somalia will be a child’s play,’-Nnamdi Kanu, Supreme Leader IPOB.
Not too long ago In some circles and on social media, all we occasionally hear is “Zoo, Zoo, Zoo.”
At a time, when you try to talk about your dreams of making it in Nigeria, all you get is, “I am not interested in your Zoo country.” The word Zoo would appear at least seven times in a statement.
It was such a horrible description that no good could ever be attributed to having worked or is currently working in the Zoo. Nigeria was once identified as the Zoo Nation by these people.
Today 5 months to the presidential election, Ask yourself when was the last time you heard the word Zoo? Now reflect on what has changed and what is applicable. Are the rest of the Nigerians fools that can not recollect the recent past?
Has the intensity of these factors— intolerance, insults, resentment, anger, and vengeance—now subsided?
The agitation and hatred directed at the Zoo Nation seems to share some characteristics with the Obidient movement.
1; Anger ?
These people are so incensed that they can’t stand anyone holding a different opinion. As a result, you hear stories that they are tribalistic and that’s why Yorubas support Tinubu, but the truth is that Igbos make up the majority of all Obidient Rallies, whether they take place in Lagos, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jos, or anywhere else and the few percentage left are the South South sympathizers.
Its unfortunate that they delude themselves that only two regions can make a president. There must be alliances across Nigeria and Obidients are unruly and always threatening others.
The same rage expressed in screaming that the Zoo Nation should fall has been translated into the new slogan “SUFFER NO DEY TIRE YOU,” as if everyone is suffering. What do they know about pain and suffering?
Only the Obidient will tell you that 40% of of people living in Kano are Igbos and wont accept that 40 percent of people living in Abia are Hausa/Fulani’s or Yoruba’s ?
Only they would tell you that the over 780 thousand newly registered voters in Osun are Obidient people from the Southeast residing in Osun, while ignoring the fact that Enugu can’t muster 100 thousand new registered voters.
They can’t guarantee to mobilize themselves from home, so they convince themselves that they can only mobilize in a foreign land and that they are the only tribe that can mobilize.
What of the Tolerance? Insult? Resentment? And Vengeance?
Let me quote a snippet from Segun Fagbemi’s wall,
“They have not learnt the internal working mechanisms of our politics. Awolowo, despite his intimidating credentials, did not clinch the presidency. There must be a handshake across the Niger. Only a successful armed insurrection can make a single tribe go it alone… and I think in this case, it is not feasible, reasonable or possible.
We keep telling them, they are adamant and abusive. It doesn’t work like that.
I need to like, trust and believe in you before I can surrender my votes and sovereignty to you.”
The LP does not have a single councillor up to the senate or governorship, yet it expects the majority parties, which have aides and dependents spread across the 36 states, to suddenly become the minority.
They keep referring to the #Endsars protest while quickly forgetting that the Endsars protest fizzled out due to a lack of leadership, which is the same structure we’re all talking about. #Endsars DIED like a common Christmas chicken.
As a result, we have seen the transformation of a portion of the Biafra agitation to the Obidient movement. It would be preferable if we did not get into tribal sentiments, but unfortunately, the immaturity of the Obidient movement causes them to fire first and then scream victims later.
