GOV MAKINDE STRIKES: NOTORIOUS ABANDONED HOTEL IN IBADAN DEMOLISHED

The Oyo State Government has commenced the demolition of an abandoned hotel structure in Ibadan, the state capital, following earlier warnings to property owners about the dangers of derelict buildings.

According to iReporter Online, the affected property, known as De Castle Inn, is situated at the Total Garden Area along the busy Mokola–Agodi Gate Road and had been left unoccupied for several years.

The state authorities had repeatedly cautioned owners of such structures to either repurpose or rehabilitate them, citing growing security concerns. According to iReporter Online, the government believes abandoned buildings have become hideouts for criminal elements, posing serious risks to public safety.

Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, Mr. William Akin-Funmilayo, had in a statement issued earlier in February, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to reclaiming any abandoned property that threatens the public.

According to iReporter Online, the demolition began over the weekend, following the evacuation of remaining property from the site days prior. Heavy machinery, including bulldozers, remained active at the scene as security personnel were deployed to ensure order during the operation.
