The announcement was made during the 32nd and 33rd combined convocation ceremony, honoring over 15,000 students for their achievements in diverse disciplines during the academic sessions of 2021/2022 and 2022/2023.

The top-performing students, Talabi Ayomide (Biochemistry), Adesanya Damilola (Pharmacology), Alabi Ifeoluwa (Computer Engineering), and Miss Adegoke Azeezat (Pharmacology), were recognized for their exceptional academic prowess with a remarkable CGPA. Governor Abiodun awarded each of them a cash prize of N2 million, while the best graduand from each department was promised a N500,000 cash reward.

Addressing the graduates, Governor Abiodun, represented by Deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing education through substantial funding and comprehensive support. He encouraged the graduates to be proud ambassadors of the university, emphasizing that their degrees equipped them with essential skills to innovate and solve problems. Recognizing the evolving business landscape, he advised them to view their degrees as the beginning of a new phase, urging them to strive for excellence in a competitive work environment.

During the convocation, Prof Ayodeji Agboola, the university’s Vice Chancellor, outlined the administration’s initiatives to enhance academic excellence and fulfill the university’s vision. He highlighted the introduction of 10 new programs, the establishment of a Business School, and the upcoming operation of the Open and Distance Learning Centre. Prof Agboola envisions transforming OOU into a world-class institution that produces graduates driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and global employment within the next ten years (2023-2033).

Congratulating the graduates, Prof Agboola urged them to leverage their acquired knowledge to make positive contributions to the world and to remain proud ambassadors of the university. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun and the university’s Governing Board, led by Prof Toyin Ashiru, for their unwavering commitment to prioritizing quality education, significantly enhancing academic excellence and infrastructural development at the university.
