Governor Yusuf Urges Tinubu: Reopen Closed Borders To Address Food Crisis

Expressing concern over the severe hunger and starvation gripping the nation due to soaring prices of essential commodities, Governor Yusuf emphasized the urgent need for decisive action to ensure the availability and affordability of food for the populace.
In a statement relayed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf underscored the critical role of reopening borders and permitting unrestricted importation of food items to mitigate the challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
The governor’s appeal followed a meeting with the Controller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at the Government House in Kano, where discussions centered on strategies to address the food crisis.
While expressing gratitude for President Tinubu’s intervention through the national food initiative, Governor Yusuf stressed the need for immediate action to alleviate food scarcity and alleviate the suffering of the people.
Acknowledging the Customs’ efforts to distribute food items in Kano, Governor Yusuf urged the agency to ensure that aid reaches those most affected by the crisis.
In response, CG Adeniyi emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Kano community, pledging to enhance operational efficiency and engagement with stakeholders to address the prevailing challenges.
During his discussions in Kano, CG Adeniyi reiterated the Service’s commitment to tackling food shortages by providing necessary supplies to residents of the state, underscoring the significance of collaborative efforts in overcoming the crisis.
