Group Warns of “Operation Eat Your Gold and Let Us Eat Our Oil” Amidst Ongoing Criticism of Akpabio
Notable group, the 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience (21st CYNDAC), has come out in defense of Senator Goodwill Obot Akpabio, countering recent accusations that he is to blame for the widespread hardships and hunger in Nigeria. The group, represented by its Coordinator Izon Ebi, argues that Akpabio has actively supported legislation aimed at alleviating these issues, and calls for greater accountability from other political figures, including governors and representatives.
In response to the trending hashtag #AkpabiomustGo, 21st CYNDAC has issued a stern warning. They announced that if the negative portrayal of Akpabio continues, they will launch a new initiative called “Operation Eat Your Gold and Let Us Eat Our Oil.” This proposed movement emphasizes resource control and self-reliance for the Niger Delta region, suggesting a shift in focus from external criticism to local empowerment.
The group asserts that Akpabio has played a significant role in advancing legislation designed to improve conditions across the country. They argue that it is unjust to single him out as the cause of Nigeria’s economic difficulties when many others, including state governors and national representatives, should also be held accountable.
21st CYNDAC’s statement underscores a call for balanced scrutiny of all political leaders and stresses the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the nation’s challenges. The proposed “Operation Eat Your Gold and Let Us Eat Our Oil” reflects a growing sentiment in the Niger Delta to take control of local resources and foster regional development in the face of ongoing national issues.
