Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff in Nigeria, believes that the ongoing protests in the country have been instigated by individuals with ulterior motives, aiming to undermine Nigeria’s democratic system. He emphasized that the Navy will not passively stand by and allow these destructive forces to succeed, as reported by Arise TV.

In a recent press briefing organized by the Armed Forces of Nigeria to address the escalating violence surrounding the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, Vice Admiral Ogalla made these remarks. The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, also highlighted that individuals abroad who are financially supporting these protests are being closely monitored. Any attempts to enter the country will result in their apprehension.

Vice Admiral Ogalla further stated, “As we have seen that the protest has taken a new dimension to the extent that it has become something that appears to be subversive in nature, because when you are protesting for bad governance or you’re protesting for poverty, and then we see people deliberately calling for change of government, unconstitutional change of government, people asking for foreign intervention in our country, it shows that the intention of some of these protesters are not exactly what Nigerians were made to believe.”

The Nigerian Navy, along with other branches of the armed forces, remains vigilant in preserving the country’s democratic values. The government is determined to address the root causes of the protests while ensuring that any subversive activities are promptly identified and neutralized.

This unfolding situation underscores the complexities and challenges of balancing the right to protest with maintaining national security. As the protests continue, the Nigerian authorities are focused on protecting the integrity of the nation’s democratic framework and preventing any attempts to destabilize the government.
