which commenced on December 30, 2023, immediately after passing the 2024 Appropriation Bill. The decision to shift the resumption date was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by House spokesman Akin Rotimi, citing an official communication from the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria.

Before the recess, since its inauguration in June 2023, the House has actively addressed a diverse range of issues, including peace and security, social welfare, healthcare, education, infrastructure development, and economic growth. Through robust debates, bipartisan collaboration, and dedicated adherence to constitutional responsibilities, the House has passed significant bills and adopted resolutions that will influence the nation’s trajectory in the coming years.

During a special session on December 30 for the final consideration of the Budget, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, commended the dedication, unity of purpose, and willingness of colleagues to engage in constructive debates. The Speaker expressed deep appreciation for their exemplary conduct, acknowledging their patriotism and sacrifices, even working on weekends and public holidays.

The Speaker highlighted that the House adopted 500 motions on pressing matters and received 962 bills since its inauguration. Out of these bills, 120 have passed the Second Reading and are currently undergoing further legislative work at the Committee stage. Notable among the bills passed during this period is the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2023, assented to by President Bola Tinubu on November 23, 2023.
