How Can Five States Be Ruled by Four Parties? Ganduje’s Bold Plan for APC’s Growth
Kano State, Nigeria – Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has voiced strong confidence in the party’s prospects for the upcoming Edo governorship election. Scheduled for September 21, this election is seen as a crucial test for the APC’s ambitions to regain control over the state.
In a recent meeting with the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Chairman Aminu Garko, Ganduje shared the party’s strategic preparations. “Our campaign is energized, and we are well-prepared for the election,” Ganduje asserted. “We are confident that we will reclaim Edo State, which was previously governed by the APC. We lost it to the PDP due to internal issues, but we are certain of regaining control.”
Ganduje also addressed the APC’s current stronghold in Ondo State. Despite challenges following the death of the former governor, Ganduje praised the party’s ability to navigate these difficulties and conduct successful primaries. “Ondo has been an APC stronghold,” he said. “We managed to overcome the obstacles and elect a candidate who enjoys popular support.”
The APC Chairman outlined the party’s broader electoral goals. A victory in Edo would bring the number of APC-governed states to 21 out of 36. Ganduje also highlighted the party’s future focus on Anambra, where the APC plans to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in next year’s elections.
Addressing the Southeast geopolitical zone, Ganduje criticized the political fragmentation in the region. “How can you have five states ruled by four political parties? What will be your political bargain?” he questioned.
He pointed to APC’s existing control in Ebonyi and Imo states and expressed the party’s intent to expand its influence further. “We aim to bring more states under the APC,” Ganduje concluded, reflecting a strategic vision for the party’s growth in Nigeria’s political landscape.
