During a plenary session chaired by Speaker Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, the committee’s report highlighted various instances of misconduct uncovered during oversight functions across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The suspended chairmen, identified as Muhammad Sani (Dutse), Bala Usman Chamo (Gumel), Ahmed Rufa’i (Ringim), and Alhaji Shehu Sule Udi (Auyo), faced unanimous suspension by the lawmakers, led by Committee Chairman Aminu Zakari.
The allegations outlined in the report include unauthorized payments, illegal transactions, and financial irregularities. Ahmed Rufa’i, in particular, was accused of embezzling over N543.6 million, diverting funds intended for ecological purposes, and making dubious payments to certain individuals.
Muhammad Sani faced allegations of conducting transactions without proper vouchers, while Bala Usman Chamo was suspended for engaging in illegal transactions amounting to N240,001,082.
Similarly, Alhaji Shehu Sule Udi was accused of administrative negligence and financial misconduct.
In accordance with Jigawa State’s local government law, the committee recommended the indefinite suspension of the chairmen pending further investigations. The House unanimously adopted these recommendations, signaling a firm stance against corruption and financial impropriety at the grassroots level.
