Jigawa Rep Dismisses Allegations of Bribery Over Rivers State Emergency Rule
A member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Shittu Galambi, who represents Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, has refuted claims that lawmakers received bribes to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. In a statement issued on Saturday, Galambi described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, emphasizing that members of the National Assembly backed the decision purely out of a commitment to patriotism, political stability, and the preservation of democratic institutions…….READ MORE
Lawmakers’ Decision Not Influenced by Coercion or Bribery
Galambi expressed shock over reports suggesting that legislators were bribed or pressured into supporting Tinubu’s decision. He insisted that the move was driven by the need to restore peace and stability in Rivers State.
“Nigerians should understand the role of the National Assembly in advising the President. Our recommendation included establishing a reconciliation team of eminent Nigerians before the six-month emergency rule expires,” he stated.
Opposition Criticism and Lawmakers’ Stand on Stability
Addressing concerns raised by opposition groups and civil society organizations, Galambi maintained that lawmakers acted in the best interest of national unity and democratic stability.
“Contrary to claims made by opposition figures and activists, our decision was guided by patriotism and the need to preserve democratic structures—including the people, the governor, and the Rivers State Assembly,” he noted.
He also urged Nigerians to embrace peaceful dialogue as a means to resolving the political crisis in Rivers State.
“I call on all well-meaning Nigerians to give peace a chance and allow Mr. President to explore the best possible solutions through dialogue and unity,” he concluded.
