Just In: Lekki-Farms Founder Seeks-Intervention From Lagos Assembly-Speaker Over Alleged Illegal-Sealing (Details)

Mrs. Oladunni Otitoju, wife of a former Ekiti State Information Commissioner and Managing Director/Founder of Lekki Farms, has called on Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to intervene following the alleged illegal sealing of Lekki Farms. The sealing was reportedly instigated by the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, and a senior advocate.

In her petition dated June 19, 2024, addressed to Obasa and House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Olotu Emmanuel, Otitoju detailed how Lekki Farms, located within a section of the Road/Canal Setback on Maroko-Epe Expressway, Lekki Scheme 1, was sealed on May 28 despite compliance evidence submitted to the Ministry.

Otitoju visited the Ministry of Environment to understand the reasons behind the sealing and was asked to submit all relevant documents, including the licence to operate an abattoir and an environmental audit report. Emmanuel intervened, writing to Wahab to unseal the farm, affirming the company’s legal operations.

Despite providing the requested documents, the Ministry has not unsealed the farm, leading to the death of livestock, spoilage of frozen products, and loss of customer goodwill and earnings.

In her petition, Otitoju highlighted the lack of communication regarding the alleged wrongdoing and emphasized the farm’s compliance with tax payments and positive community impact, including support during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Otitoju urged the Honourable Speaker to compel the Ministry of Environment to cease intimidation and eviction threats against Lekki Farms, pending a thorough investigation of the ownership claims currently before the Lagos State High Court.
