JUST IN: PDP Governors Forum/National Working Committee Resolves To Stick With The Party Constitution On Edo Crisis (Full Details)
*PREAMBLE:*
It is no longer news that the crises in Edo PDP is centred around the Party structure in the state as well as those to be delegates in the forth coming PDP National Convention.
*ISSUES:*
The Governor, Godwin Obaseki was last year rescued by PDP to secure his second term after Adams Oshomole’s APC leadership had disqualified Godwin Obaseki from the Gubernatorial race in APC.
According to Governor Obaseki “PDP gave me shelter after I was driven out in the rain by APC but for PDP’s umbrella” Unfortunately, the same Governor now wants to drive those who gave him that shelter out of PDP and take ownership of the structures that rescued him. He came into PDP with his Deputy Governor, went as far as appointing SSG, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Special Advisers and Commissioners all from his APC followers who where stranded with him but sheltered by the PDP.
Now he says in addition to keeping all appointments so far to his APC followers, he also wants the party structure for his people to take constitutionally elected positions from the PDP executives. Hmmmmm
*STATUS:*
In the PDP Governors meeting a few days ago, the Governors clearly told their colleague Governor Obaseki that his actions are unacceptable, strange and not of God. That he shouldn’t be seen to be fighting everywhere especially with a history of fighting those that help him.
The Governors, however resolved that they stand on the Constitution of PDP hence they will not support any unconstitutional harmonisation nor dissolution. Stressing on their stand, they further x-rayed the possible litigation from various party officials that may affect the Party moving into the 2023 General elections.
In another development, the National Working Committee also confirmed to Governor Obaseki that they are left with no choice but to adhere to the Party Constitution because they have been restrained by a competent court of law not to tamper with duly executives from ward to state levels in Edo PDP.
*Where does Governor Obaseki go from here?*
He immediately went to a High Court in Benin to try and get a restraining order but Justice J.O Okeaya-Inneh who knows the implication of serving an injuction on an already existing restraining order secured by Chief Dan Orbih and others purportedly suspended joined from an Abuja High Court will amount to abuse of Judicial process hence she settled for a MOTION ON NOTICE and further adjouned to November 2nd, 2021. (This is obviously contrary to the social media news that Chief Dan Orbih, Hon Ogbeide-Ihama and others have been restrained from attending the PDP convention)
