Originally, the free rides were introduced by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for a duration of two months to alleviate the hardships faced by residents. However, Tinubu advocated for the extension, emphasizing the importance of providing hope and reasons for celebration among the people.
In his speech, Tinubu remarked, “Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate.”
