In a conversation with President Tinubu, Lagbaja was in high spirits, and the president expressed his joy and prayers for Lagbaja’s quick recovery ¹. The Nigerian Army Headquarters has also dismissed the rumors as “fake news,” emphasizing that Lagbaja is recuperating and in good spirits.

The false rumors were fueled by a social media post from Jackson Ude, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, claiming Lagbaja had died of cancer in a foreign hospital. However, Army officials swiftly refuted the claims, confirming Lagbaja had traveled abroad for medical checkups, which he is entitled to as a public officer.

To ensure continuity in leadership during Lagbaja’s absence, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe has been authorized to announce promotions within the army. The pro-Tinubu group, “The Renewed Hope Agenda,” has also urged Nigerians to disregard the false rumors and continue supporting Lagbaja’s work.
