Kunya found herself embroiled in a legal quagmire after being arraigned by the HISBAH Police for allegedly posting content deemed immoral and in violation of Islamic laws on TikTok. Despite undergoing counseling at the behest of the HISBAH board, she was subsequently arrested and prosecuted for persisting with her TikTok activities.

Following a ruling from the Kano High Court, Kunya was ordered to undergo a mental health screening, leading to her transfer to Dawanau Psychiatric Hospital. However, tensions peaked when hospital authorities attempted to administer a psychiatric injection, met with Kunya’s steadfast refusal.

In a report by Freedom Radio station in Gombe State, it was revealed that Kunya adamantly resisted the injection, asserting her right to refuse treatment that she deemed potentially unsafe. Her legal representative, A. U Haji, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the court’s directive was for mental screening, not involuntary medical procedures.

“The life of our client is under threat with that injection because that was not what the court ordered. She has the right to know her health problem if any first before receiving treatment,” argued Haji, underscoring the fundamental right to informed consent in matters of medical intervention.
