Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has accused legislators from the Gwer/Gwer West Federal Constituency of obstructing his state development plans. Speaking during a thank-you tour at St. Francis Primary School Aliade in Gwer East Local Government Area, the governor criticized opposition from unnamed National Assembly members representing the constituency, citing hindrances to his agenda. Although he pledged to push forward with state progress despite these challenges, he did not specify individuals.

Senator Titus Zam of Benue Northwest and Arc. Asema Achado, the House of Representatives member for Gwer East/Gwer West, are key parliamentarians from the area. Both have aligned with SGF Senator George Akume amid Alia’s disputes over APC leadership in the state, complicating political dynamics.

Senator Barnabas Gemade, Chairman of the Benue APC Elders Forum, endorsed Governor Alia’s leadership during the event, urging statewide support for peace and prosperity. Meanwhile, Mrs. Comfort Agbo, Caretaker Chairman of Gwer East LGA, expressed community pride in the governor’s achievements but appealed for reconciliation regarding the National Assembly members’ alleged opposition.

In response, Arc. Asema Achado denounced the governor’s accusations, dismissing them as political manipulation. His aide, Mendah Manasseh, criticized Alia for spreading misinformation and challenged him to substantiate claims of local development progress.

The ongoing power struggle between Governor Alia and SGF Senator George Akume has fragmented Benue APC, drawing in National Assembly members and resisting mediation efforts from Vice President Kashim Shettima and Tor Tiv, Prof. Ortese Iorzua James Ayatse.
