MI Abaga Says He’s Not in Competition With Davido or Wizkid

According to reports by iReporter Online, renowned Nigerian rapper Jude Lemfani Abaga, popularly known as MI Abaga, has stated that he is not in competition with other prominent figures in the music industry such as Davido or Wizkid. The 43-year-old Plateau-born artist explained that he has followed his own unique creative path and remains content with his position in the evolving music scene.

In a recent interview, MI reflected on the dramatic transformation of the Nigerian music industry over the years, particularly highlighting the commercial and financial shifts that have occurred. He acknowledged the success of younger Afrobeats artists and expressed admiration for their achievements but emphasized that he does not feel compelled to emulate their lifestyle or spending habits.

Citing the skyrocketing costs of luxury in the current industry landscape, the rapper noted that items like high-end cars, now priced at ₦100–₦200 million, were once significantly more affordable. He pointed out that he prefers to maintain financial prudence, especially in the face of pressing social issues affecting the people around him.

He said, “I’m not Davido. I’m not Wizkid. They are in the red-hot moment. But I am MI, and has MI lost something? I don’t see it. The cars they’re buying now for ₦100 to ₦200 million, in our time, we bought them for ₦20 million. I live in Nigeria in real life where people need money. I’m not buying a ₦50 million ticket to America when I have staff with real issues.”

In addition, MI addressed the nature of his relationship with fellow rapper and younger brother Jesse Jagz. He clarified that any personal challenges between them are purely family-related and do not affect their professional or musical collaborations.
