Military Urges Nigerians Not To Fear Personnel In Uniforms

Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, the Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations at the Defence Headquarters, has called on Nigerians not to be fearful of military personnel in uniform, emphasizing that their primary role is to protect the citizens.

Bankole also expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the military would earn the respect of the Nigerian populace.

Addressing a recent incident involving soldiers at the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Bankole confirmed that the Defence Headquarters is reviewing the matter and assured that anyone found responsible would face appropriate sanctions.

He acknowledged that while there are underlying factors that contributed to the incident, the behavior displayed does not reflect the general conduct of the military. “What transpired at Ikeja Disco is being taken seriously by both the Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Air Force. Any necessary disciplinary actions will be taken,” he said.

The Rear Admiral added that the military has increased its efforts in public education, assuring the citizens that the armed forces are dedicated to their protection. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the military and civilians, noting that civilian cooperation and intelligence are crucial for the military to effectively carry out its duties.
