This assurance came during the official presentation of a consultant’s report on the implementation of the Nigerian Port Community System (PCS) in Abuja.

The PCS initiative aims to align Nigeria with the provisions of the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL) by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). By minimizing delays in maritime traffic and fostering cooperation between governments, the FAL Convention sets standards for efficient procedures and formalities in international trade.

Highlighting the significance of the PCS implementation, Minister Oyetola expressed optimism about its role in advancing Nigeria’s global trade interests. He underscored its integration into the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prioritizing it as a Key Performance Indicator for the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

Mohammed Bello Koko, the Managing Director/CEO of NPA, emphasized the pivotal role of automation in enhancing port competitiveness. He outlined the efforts undertaken to advance the PCS project, including collaboration with the IMO and engagement of the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA) for technical assistance.

The collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller-General Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, further underscores the commitment to successful PCS execution. These collective efforts signify a promising outlook for streamlining port operations and fostering trade facilitation in Nigeria.
