This move by the NDPC comes in response to reports of illegal access to enrollees’ personal data allegedly conducted by an entity identified as XpressVerify.com. Prior to this development, NDPC had been collaborating with NIMC on data protection efforts, including conducting training sessions with relevant NIMC personnel in February 2024.

Dr. Olatunji emphasized the significance of safeguarding data privacy and protection, noting that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring the integrity of personal data. He highlighted NIMC’s commitment to internal investigations and cooperation with NDPC to address the allegations effectively.

Furthermore, Dr. Olatunji stated that NDPC would collaborate with relevant agencies to audit the alleged unauthorized data processing and its potential monetization. Those found guilty of violating the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023 would face legal consequences.

In a bid for transparency, the national commissioner announced that preliminary findings from the investigation would be made available to the public within seven days, demonstrating NDPC’s commitment to accountability and addressing privacy concerns.
